About Seminary

The United Lutheran Mission Association (ULMA) is an association, not a synod or fellowship. It was established to unite resources from independent, confessional Lutheran congregations in order to spread the Gospel, establish mission congregations, and support existing Lutheran churches that adhere to orthodox Lutheran theology. ULMA’s focus is on promoting the pure teaching of Scripture and the administration of the sacraments according to the Lutheran Confessions, as detailed in the Book of Concord (1580).

ULMA operates on the belief that organizational affiliations, such as synods, are not inherently marks of the church; rather, it is the faithful proclamation of the Word and the right administration of the sacraments that define true Christian fellowship. The association emphasizes careful judgment in altar and pulpit fellowship, especially in a time where many synods face theological controversies.

Walther Theological Seminary

Through our association with Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Decatur, Illinois, we support Walther Theological Seminary. The seminary emphasizes traditional Lutheran theology, rooted in the Confessions of the Lutheran Church as found in the Book of Concord. It provides training for men who wish to enter pastoral ministry in confessional Lutheran churches. The seminary adheres to the scriptural doctrine that pastors are called to preach the Gospel and administer the sacraments faithfully, and it uses historical Lutheran teachings, to prepare its students.

Students of Walther Seminary are trained not only in biblical and doctrinal studies but also in the practical aspects of ministry. The seminary is recognized for its confessional adherence, preparing pastors who are committed to preserving the faith as confessed in the Lutheran tradition.

For future seminarians, both ULMA and Walther Seminary offer a path that focuses on preserving confessional Lutheranism, supporting independent missions, and maintaining doctrinal purity in all aspects of ministry and church life.
